Event Review

GCBJ36N CITO, A487 North, Another Quick Pick by 9 Usual Suspects
We were lucky with the weather but not so with the amount of litter. It always amazes me what people abandon in this lay-by, a couple of firsts for us, a stripped central heating boiler, I think we had everything minus the copper and two perfect gorilla tubs. A large piece of carpet was proudly dragged by our youngest attendee from the undergrowth and added to the 10 bags of litter that contained the usual random clothes, bottles, cans and fast food packaging.
The difference we made was incredible, the big question is ‘How long will it be before we will be back?’

Memories of Bob

We sadly have to announce the passing of Bob. He was one of the original 9 Usual Suspects. Alongside his wife Judy they cached under the name of Jude100, attending many events especially CITO’s. Due to his failing health, five years ago they moved back to Chorley to be closer to their family. He will be fondly remembered for his wicked sense of humour, wearing wellies, smoking his pipe and for being captain of Team Bob.

Treasure Collections

The next 2 collections will be released on March 17th at noon UTC.

Cat figurines collection consists of 9 Treasures.
Collect these Treasures by finding and logging Traditional Caches, Mystery Caches, or Multi-Caches with a difficulty rating from 1-3.
Geomobiles collection consists of 5 Treasures.
Collect these Treasures by finding and logging caches with the Park and Grab attribute.

Village Hall Week 2026

The Village Hall Series started in 2013 with the first cache placed by GeoJaxx in Denmead, Hampshire.  It has steadily grown in popularity and currently can be found in 80 counties in England, Scotland, Wales, The Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. 
The geocaches can be set in any hall which is used by the community for local groups or available to hire for private functions, but not social clubs, function rooms and halls for members only.
Village Halls Week is a National celebration of village halls and community buildings by ACRE (Action with communities in Rural England). The annual week is in March and is organised to thank the volunteers who are working at these halls which are the hubs at the heart of so many rural communities and promote their use. 
The village Hall Series support ACRE with Geocaching challenges, Profile badges and Geocaching events held at village halls around the country and also with the production of Geocoins.

This years Village Hall Week runs from 16th to 22nd March. Why not join in the celebrations by hosting an event, placing or finding a cache.

Profile badges will be available for

  • Hosting an event or CITO at a village hall
  • Placing a village hall series cache 
  • Finding a village hall cache during Village Hall Week.

Where: Cann Office Hotel, Llangadfan, Welshpool, Powys SY21 0PL
Time: 5pm – 7pm
Mol’n’Me & Plumbguy are here for a week and would like to meet other friendly cachers from the area, get some ideas and hints on places to explore nearby.

Where: Lay-by A487 (Traveling North)
Time: 11am – 12pm
A quick tidy up of the lay-by on the ‘new’ Caernarfon by-pass. This area is in desperate need of litter pick, why can’t people take their litter home with them? Please note there is a very steep bank and lots of brambles involved in this litter pick. Parking will be tight with limited parking is at the published coordinates.
Gwynedd Council Tidy Towns Scheme will be supplying litter pickers, hi-vis vests, bags and but please bring your own gloves. 

Piratemania Future Dates Announcement

Piratemania Team have made the following important announcement:

Piratemania mega day 2027 July 24th venue to be announced later 
Piratemania mega day 2028 which is PM’s 20th Birthday will be July 29th 2028 
Camping dates and venue will be finalised and published here in due course 
As 2028 is our birthday year we want to make it special so keep a look out for some special announcements”

Two new Treasure collections have been released this week:

Fast Food Erasers

The Fast Food Erasers collection consists of 4 Treasures. To collect find and log:
Any non-Event geocache type except Adventure Lab®, any size, minimum 1 Favourite points and a difficulty rating between 2.0 and 2.5.

Toy Dinosaurs

The Toy Dinosaurs collection consists of 5 Treasures. To collect find and log:
Any Multi-Cache, Mystery, or Earthcache of any size.

March Equinox Souvenir

In 2026, the spring (vernal) equinox in the Northern Hemisphere occurs on March 20th, marking the astronomical start of spring. It is the moment when the Sun crosses the celestial equator, resulting in nearly equal day and night, signalling the return of warmth, longer daylight hours, and the start of spring growth.

To earn the souvenir find and log any geocache, Event, or Adventure Lab® Location from Tursday 19th to Sunday 22nd March.

9 Usual Suspects invite everyone to their TB Race prize giving event. Due to the on going renovations at 9US HQ we are returning to the Airport Cafe at Caernarfon Airport where our TB race began. 

Pi Day 2026 Souvenir

Pi Day, Saturday 14th March, is an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), observed on March 14th because the date (3/14) corresponds to the first three significant digits of π (3.14). The tradition began in the United States and has since gained worldwide recognition.

This year there are 3 souvenirs available for finding and logging Mystery Caches between Friday 13th – Sunday 15th March.

  • Find and log 1 Mystery Cache to earn the Coconut Cream Pi souvenir.
  • Find and log 3 Mystery Caches to earn the Cherry Pi souvenir.
  • Find and log 14 Mystery Caches to earn the Blueberry Pi souvenir.

All non-Premium Mystery Caches are open to everyone throughout the weekend on the Geocaching® app from 11:00:00 UTC on Friday, 13th March until 10:00:00 UTC on Monday, 16th March, 2026.
