GCBJY0TCITO 2026 Season 1 by 9 Usual Suspects CITO Event D1/T3.5 GCBJY179US Cake & a Brew by 9 Usual Suspects Event D1/T1
Another really satisfying CITO followed by Cake & a Brew. Once again we centred on Caernarfons Parc Dre and surrounding area plus the beginning of the Lon Eifion cycle path. Between us all we managed to fill around 20 bags of rubbish – everything from table legs, rusty old BBQs, a road cone and the usual bottles, cans, fast food packaging, clothes and vapes. New items for us was a driving licence and lego.
It was great to be out with such good company, chatting as we worked and getting plenty of bemused smiles and “diolch” from passers‑by. The difference in this area compared to when we first started coming here in 2018 is huge, far less rubbish and with the recent maintenance work on the park by the council it really feels like the place is being cared for.
Big thanks to everyone who turned up and got stuck in. Your time and effort really do make a visible difference.
We have just one event published since our last post:

March Equinox Souvenir
In 2026, the spring (vernal) equinox in the Northern Hemisphere occurs on March 20th, marking the astronomical start of spring. It is the moment when the Sun crosses the celestial equator, resulting in nearly equal day and night, signalling the return of warmth, longer daylight hours, and the start of spring growth.
To earn the souvenir find and log any geocache, Event, or Adventure Lab® Location from Tursday 19th to Sunday 22nd March.
Latest Update on Lôn Eifion Path Closure
Here is the latest update on the progress of the repairs, or lack of, on Lôn Eifion. The question is, will the path reopen in 2026? From Councillor Caig Ap Iago: “Some residents will know that repairs to the local footpaths were scheduled to be completed by Easter. Unfortunately, there will now be a delay. When the work was put out to tender, the price that came back was significantly higher than expected and well beyond the budget available for the project. As a result, the council cannot proceed with the work under those terms and officers are now reviewing the options so that the repairs can still go ahead in a way that represents value for public money. I understand this will be frustrating, particularly for those who were expecting the work to be completed soon. However, it is important that we spend public funds responsibly and do not accept costs that are clearly unreasonable. I will share an update as soon as there is more information on the revised timetable for the work.”

Event Review
GCBJ36NCITO, A487 North, Another Quick Pick by 9 Usual Suspects We were lucky with the weather but not so with the amount of litter. It always amazes me what people abandon in this lay-by, a couple of firsts for us, a stripped central heating boiler, I think we had everything minus the copper and two perfect gorilla tubs. A large piece of carpet was proudly dragged by our youngest attendee from the undergrowth and added to the 10 bags of litter that contained the usual random clothes, bottles, cans and fast food packaging. The difference we made was incredible, the big question is ‘How long will it be before we will be back?’ A few photos from our day:
Memories of Bob
We sadly have to announce the passing of Bob. He was one of the original 9 Usual Suspects. Alongside his wife Judy they cached under the name of Jude100, attending many events especially CITO’s. Due to his failing health, five years ago they moved back to Chorley to be closer to their family. He will be fondly remembered for his wicked sense of humour, wearing wellies, smoking his pipe and for being captain of Team Bob.
Treasure Collections
The next 2 collections will be released on March 17th at noon UTC.
Cat figurines collection consists of 9 Treasures. Collect these Treasures by finding and logging Traditional Caches, Mystery Caches, or Multi-Caches with a difficulty rating from 1-3. Geomobiles collection consists of 5 Treasures. Collect these Treasures by finding and logging caches with the Park and Grab attribute.
Village Hall Week 2026
The Village Hall Series started in 2013 with the first cache placed by GeoJaxx in Denmead, Hampshire. It has steadily grown in popularity and currently can be found in 80 counties in England, Scotland, Wales, The Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The geocaches can be set in any hall which is used by the community for local groups or available to hire for private functions, but not social clubs, function rooms and halls for members only. Village Halls Week is a National celebration of village halls and community buildings by ACRE (Action with communities in Rural England). The annual week is in March and is organised to thank the volunteers who are working at these halls which are the hubs at the heart of so many rural communities and promote their use. The village Hall Series support ACRE with Geocaching challenges, Profile badges and Geocaching events held at village halls around the country and also with the production of Geocoins.
This years Village Hall Week runs from 16th to 22nd March. Why not join in the celebrations by hosting an event, placing or finding a cache.

Latest Treasure Update
After listening to geocachers comments on ‘Treasures’ Geocaching HQ have made some improvements. It is now easier to switch between collections and to see if a cache qualifies for a Treasure.
All collections are now active by default for Premium members. Setting “Priority collections” is optional, you can choose up to five collections to prioritise. When you log a cache that qualifies for more than one collection, you’ll collect Treasure from the highest-ranked priority collection. If a cache doesn’t match any of your priority collections, but does qualify for another collection that’s not in your priority collections, you’ll collect that Treasure. If you don’t set any priority collections, you’ll continue to collect Treasure from any collection that matches your finds.
Viewing Treasure on cache pages on Geocaching.com
Premium members can now see which collections a cache qualifies for directly on the cache page on Geocaching.com. This makes it easier to plan your next outing.
To see what collections a cache qualifies for directly from a cache page, go to a cache page on Geocaching.com and click on “View Treasures” in the list menu on the right hand of the page below the “Log geocache” button. A window will appear that shows which collections the geocache qualifies for.

GCBDKZDChristmas Dinner – Nosh & Natter 84 by 9 Usual Suspects Our Christmas Dinner event is always a popular event and a great way to start the festive season. This year was no exception, an evening full of fun and laughter. Big Thank You’s to Mike & Gail for the quiz and prizes, Gra for the lovely dragon magnets, the Secret Santa and of course the staff of The Goat for the lovely food and looking after us.
GCBERY89 Usual Suspects: Escape Room. by 9 Usual Suspects Bess’s Friends, Julie, assisted by Ray crafted a fantastic geocache event in the form of an escape room set in a pub. It was a radical shift from our normal events and required teams to solve a series of cleverly designed clues to ‘break out’ of the pub before closing time. The pressure was on as our local PanIQ escape room owner and their partner attended joining one of the teams. Solving the clues required a combination of teamwork, observation, deduction and lateral thinking only when these were combined, escape was possible. A great afternoon which everyone enjoyed and appreciated the work involved by Julie & Ray to make this event possible. We are hoping that there will be a repeat event…
And finally….

Event Review
GCBC20QGIFF 2025, Geocaching International Film Festival by 9 Usual Suspects Event D1/T1
This was the 8th GIFF we have hosted our first being at Witch’s Brew, Pwllheli way back in 2015. For a history of GIFF and to take a look at all previous qualifying films visit Geocaching HQ GIFF.
Watching the GIFF films with geocaching friends was a great way to spend a wet miserable Sunday afternoon. As well as the films we enjoyed popcorn, sweets, flapjack, cake and soft drinks. A big thank you goes to everyone for helping set up, Julie for manning the shop & raffle, Jen for the flapjack and making the tea, Pete for manning the projector and tech, and all who helped clear up at the end of the afternoon.
I think we were all in agreement that the films this year were of a higher standard than we have had in previous years.
