HARD WORK by Harogs Team
(harogsgeocachingclown, and commge)

This clever Swiss made film took a unique look at the workings of a gadget cache, but only came 2nd in the vote held at our GIFF event. If you missed the films or would like to watch them again: find them here: GIFF 2025 finalist films.

  • There were 61 filmmakers from 21 countries who submitted a film for consideration this year.
  • 20 films from 10 countries were selected as finalists.
  • The final films were viewed at 634 Events across 92 countries, territories, and regions.
  • Just under 10,000 geocachers voted for the People’s Choice Award

Event Reviews

GCBDKZD Christmas Dinner – Nosh & Natter 84 by 9 Usual Suspects
Our Christmas Dinner event is always a popular event and a great way to start the festive season. This year was no exception, an evening full of fun and laughter. Big Thank You’s to Mike & Gail for the quiz and prizes, Gra for the lovely dragon magnets, the Secret Santa and of course the staff of The Goat for the lovely food and looking after us.

GCBERY8 9 Usual Suspects: Escape Room. by 9 Usual Suspects
Bess’s Friends, Julie, assisted by Ray crafted a fantastic geocache event in the form of an escape room set in a pub. It was a radical shift from our normal events and required teams to solve a series of cleverly designed clues to ‘break out’ of the pub before closing time. The pressure was on as our local PanIQ escape room owner and their partner attended joining one of the teams. Solving the clues required a combination of teamwork, observation, deduction and lateral thinking only when these were combined, escape was possible. A great afternoon which everyone enjoyed and appreciated the work involved by Julie & Ray to make this event possible. We are hoping that there will be a repeat event…

And finally….

It’s nearly Christmas, the season of bad jokes…
What never eats Christmas dinner?
The turkey, it’s stuffed!

GCBC20Q GIFF 2025, Geocaching International Film Festival by 9 Usual Suspects Event D1/T1

This was the 8th GIFF we have hosted our first being at Witch’s Brew, Pwllheli way back in 2015. For a history of GIFF and to take a look at all previous qualifying films visit Geocaching HQ GIFF.

Watching the GIFF films with geocaching friends was a great way to spend a wet miserable Sunday afternoon. As well as the films we enjoyed popcorn, sweets, flapjack, cake and soft drinks. A big thank you goes to everyone for helping set up, Julie for manning the shop & raffle, Jen for the flapjack and making the tea, Pete for manning the projector and tech, and all who helped clear up at the end of the afternoon.

I think we were all in agreement that the films this year were of a higher standard than we have had in previous years.

Recommended Pub Stopover

While heading to Piratemania Germany in our campervan via Harwich we discovered this basic pub stopover, free as long as you use the pub. The Bricklayers Arms, Little Bentley, Essex is about 20 minutes from Harwich port making it very popular with campervan owners traveling from Harwich to Hook of Holland. The pub advertise space for 5 vans and request you phone ahead to reserve a space but the night we stayed there was at least 9 vans many of which had not booked. The food is very good and the beer excellent. Do check on opening times as we found they were different than quoted on the website.

For the geocacher there is a cache on the green opposite the pub GC8HCV4 K6 Red and many more locally including the 007 puzzle series.

New Treasures

From April 1st two new Treasure collections, Navigational tools and Egg hunt, became available for geocachers to collect when they find and log qualifying geocaches. To access these collections, you must first complete the Celebrating 25 years collection.

Navigational tools
This collection celebrates the tools that explorers have used to navigate the world. The collection features five Treasures ranging from an astrolabe to a map.

You can collect these Treasures by finding and logging any Traditional geocache with a difficulty rating of 2 or higher, and a terrain rating of 1.5 or lower.

Egg hunt
This collection highlights seven different geocache types with seven different Treasures. Each Treasure in this collection has different criteria for the geocaches you have to find and log in order to collect the Treasure. The Treasure can be collected in any order:

    • Egg 1: Collect by finding and logging one Traditional Cache with a difficulty rating of 2 or above
    • Egg 2: Collect by finding and logging one Mystery Cache with a difficulty rating of 2 or above

CITO Season 1

After a recent maintenance run along Lon Eifion we were very disappointed on the amount of litter we found between Bontnewydd and Caernarfon. So we are planning another littering picking CITO for the weekend 12th/13th April. This will give anyone that has not collected CITO Season 1 souvenir a chance do so. Please let us know if you prefer Saturday or Sunday for this event.

Blue Switch Day Souvenirs

On May 2nd, 2000, the United States government decided to discontinue restricting GPS accuracy, known as Selective Availability, making GPS technology more accurate for everyone. May 2nd became known to geocachers as “Blue Switch Day.” The first geocache was hidden the following day on May 3rd, 2000.

To celebrate 25 years of geocaching there are two new souvenirs to earn for Blue Switch Day 2025, a finder and hider.

To earn the Blue Switch Day 2025 Finder souvenir log one geocache, attend an Event, or complete an Adventure Lab® Location between May 2nd and 4th.

To earn the Blue Switch Day 2025 Hider souvenir have any type of geocache excluding events and Ad Labs published between May 1st and 31st 2025.
